Andrew McLeod

Chief Executive

Andrew was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Northpower in July 2017. Prior to joining the Northpower team he held senior positions across the electricity, oil and gas, and water utility sectors, most recently leading Powerco’s electricity division. Andrew is a chartered professional engineer with tertiary qualifications in engineering and finance. His experience spans asset strategy, construction management, and business leadership, gained across New Zealand and within the United Kingdom. Andrew’s focus is positioning Northpower to deliver long-term benefits to Whangarei and Kaipara consumers via returns to the Northpower Electric Power Trust, appropriate infrastructure investment, local employment, advocacy in energy markets, and strong customer service.

Lloyd Richards

Lloyd has over 35 years engineering, construction and management experience working for Northpower. Lloyd is responsible for Northpower’s Contracting Division in New Zealand with hundreds of staff covering electrical and fibre communications; ensuring contracts are fulfilled to client and business requirements.

Paul McElwee

Paul McElwee has been in senior leadership roles in the commercial sector for over 15 years and joined Northpower in 2014 following many years focussed on driving business performance in corporate heavyweights such as New Zealand Dairy Foods, Fonterra and Pact Group. Paul’s experience spans both the public and private sectors across New Zealand and Australia. He also currently sits on the Auckland leadership team for Institute of Chartered Accountants where he assists with driving change in the profession.

Richard Pearce

General Manager Strategic Development and Regulatory

Richard has over 20 years of experience in the electricity and production industries. He has held senior leadership positions in engineering, consulting, asset management, and business development, and has successfully delivered major infrastructure projects throughout his career. Richard joined Northpower in 2014 and is responsible for strategic development and regulatory within the Northpower Group.

Josie Boyd

General Counsel and General Manager Network Assets

As General Manager Network, Josie is responsible for leading the commercial, customer and regulatory side of Northpower’s electricity network business. Josie is also a director of Northpower’s UFB companies. Josie joined Northpower in 2011, was its General Counsel for a number of years and prior to that worked in New Zealand and the UK in a range of private practice and in house corporate roles in the utilities, construction and professional services industries.


John van Brink

John joined Northpower at the beginning of 2017, responsible for asset management, project, inspection solutions, and providing asset management expertise through the wider business.  John has held a number of senior management and executive positions in generation and utility development and operations.  John’s experience covers the entire value chain from strategy development to commercial and asset management practice.


Andrea O'Brien

Group Manager, Human Resources and Safety

Andrea joined Northpower in 2009 as the Manager, Human Resources and Safety and was promoted to the role of Group Manager, Human Resources and Safety in 2016 based in Whangarei.  Andrea has over 20 years’ experience in human resources, safety and quality management working previously in the timber, forestry and mining industries.  Andrea attended London Business School in 2016 to look at Transformational HR Strategy.


Darren Mason

Northpower Fibre CEO

Darren joined Northpower in 1996 and has been instrumental in the company securing the Whangarei UFB build. Prior to his appointment as Northpower Fibre CEO, Darren was Northpower’s longstanding Marketing and Fibre Manager.
