Northpower offers a free service where our customer advisor can come to your school, community group or organisation to talk with you and your students about all things electricity.
Northpower electrical safety school programme
Since 2003 we've visited over 220 schools in Kaipara and Whangarei to facilitate children with their electricity learning journey through our educational advisory programme.
Topics covered include how electricity gets to the home and school, electricity safety inside and outside the home - including safety when playing to increase awareness around overhead wires, transformers, pillar boxes, poles and underground cables.
Our electricity in schools programme is aimed at Year 3 - 6 children (although we can also provide a simplified presentation for junior children).
The session is 1 to 1.5 hours in length and includes a visual display, safety DVD and all students receive a workbook to complete either in the classroom or at home.

As part of our commitment to our local communities, we're happy to come and visit your local group or organisation. This is a great opportunity for our customers to engage with us and give feedback around our network and services.
Our experienced staff can answer queries around power usage and power bills, and can give helpful advice on saving power, electrical safety and appliance technology.
We've even got a 100% electricity powered van that we can bring along for those interested in new electric vehicle technology.
We're proud to support local events such as Northland Agricultural Field Days in Dargaville and the Home Show in Whangarei. Our staff are on hand to chat with our customers about any issues and provide handy tips on power usage.
