Due to the risk of destabilisation causing collapse, you cannot dig or excavate within five (5) meters of our power poles without a Close Approach Consent.
If you need to work closer than five (5) metres from a power pole, you'll need to apply for a Close Approach Consent. We'll need a minimum of two working days to process your application.
We’ll also advise if you'll need additional pole supports to prevent poles collapsing - and if necessary, we’ll come on site to give you on the spot support.
Please note, while you're digging near power poles you also need to consider overhead lines. If you hit an overhead line there's a real risk of electrocution, explosion, flashover or fire. To learn about how to work safely around overhead lines, click here.
Please allow a minimum of 2 working days to process your request. If you need to work near power lines urgently or on a weekend or public holiday please call us on 0800 10 40 40.
