The Northpower Trust owns Northpower on behalf of consumers connected to Northpower's electricity network in Whangarei and Kaipara districts. Since 1993 the Northpower Trust has returned almost $100 million to these electricity consumers.
Every year the Northpower Trust distributes a share of Northpower's profit to consumers in Whangarei and Kaipara.
This normally happens around December and appears as a credit on your electricity bill, referred to as 'Northpower Trust Distribution'.
The Trust is committed to returning profits to the people in the communities we serve.
Annually, normally in December and it will show on your electricity bill.
As a single owner, the Trust is accountable for the stewardship of the Trust’s assets for the benefit of current and future generations of beneficiaries.
All connected consumers are beneficiaries and receive distributions, returning wealth to the local area.
Consumers retain ownership of a critical local infrastructure asset.
Accumulation of assets funded by previous generations of consumers is held in trust for the future generations of electricity consumers.
For many years you received a payment (distribution) from the Northpower Trust around December and a line holiday rebate from Northpower around February each year. Both payments would have appeared as credits on your electricity retail bill. From 2017 all dividends will be made from Northpower to the Trust, which will then make an annual distribution to its beneficiaries (the electricity consumers connected to the Northpower electricity network in Whangarei and Kaipara).
