Harshita is an Ambassador for the Wonder Project, an initiative sponsored by Engineering New Zealand which is about inspiring students through hands-on learning and creative design. It aims to excite and engage young people in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers by embarking on a fun learning journey.
The children were taught Newton’s Laws of Motion through engaging in scientific experiments. Their most interesting assignment was for groups to build a rocket and to compete against each other to accomplish the most successful launch.
This consisted of planning, safety measures. PPE, preparation, assembly and blast off using 1.5 litre plastic drink bottles, bile pumps, tape scissors, hot glue guns and cardboard.
The exciting moments were when the rockets built by the students were launched successfully. Harshita has imparted energy and encouraged interest in young New Zealanders towards science and engineering futures.
