As an essential service, Northpower’s priority is to keep the power and fibre broadband running for our customers, ensuring the ongoing reliability of our networks and the safety of our staff and community during this Level 4 response. To make sure your power supply is as safe and reliable as possible, we are continually updating the poles and wires on the network.
Some of our gear has been around since the 1950’s - so we are always working out what needs an update and replacing it so the lights stay on.
This year we will spend around $4 million on replacing power poles, cross arms and conductors (wires). Over the next 12 months we will have:
- 220 new power poles
- 850 new cross arms and
- 82km of new wires added to the Northpower electricity network.
