We’re getting ready for a predicted 25% increase in demand for power in only eight years’ time from many of our commercial customers, by upgrading our Kioreroa substation in Whangarei. This substation powers over 1000 mostly commercial and industrial customers around Port Road and Rewa Rewa Road, including Carter Holt sawmills.
This $1.5 million investment means we’ll be providing a more secure supply to our customers in this area, greatly reducing the risk of future power outages. We’re now 85% of the way through the project – so far we’ve put in the infrastructure at Kioreroa so we can attach a new line to connect to our supply at Maungatapere and Kensington, lowering the risk of an outage to those customers supplied by Kioreroa substation.
It’s another example of the projects we’re working on to ensure a reliable power supply to meet our customers’ future needs, while improving safety and environmental compliance along the way.
