The 2008 Electricity Rescue Helicopter Appeal Begins
Northpower and Top Energy the two Northland electricity lines companies, announced the start of the 2008 Electricity Rescue Helicopter Appeal, today. NEST Chairman John Bain said that Northpower and Top Energy have supported the Electricity Rescue Helicopter since the service began 20 years ago.
The annual appeal is the life blood for this essential charitable service. We are indeed fortunate to have the Line Companies as our major sponsors and as they have been with us from day one, we applaud their efforts with the Northland Public to keep us flying all this time. We are being used more often and more frequently we are asked how do we manage, well, it is with the support of this appeal, so we ask that the generosity of everyone keeps going this year and the dollar for dollar target is met. Bain said.
The annual appeal starts this week and runs until end of October, giving Northlanders two months to raise more funds than ever before.
Northpower’s Marketing Manager Darren Mason said Northlander’s are always willing to give money towards the appeal and this is proven with the 20-year anniversary of Northland’s own Rescue Helicopter Service.
“We continually see the support for the local electricity rescue service operating in the skies over Northland, and we know we have one of the best operations in the country on our door step.” Mason said.
Please dig deep and donate this year, on the 20th Anniversary of Northland’s own Electricity Rescue Helicopter and we will be celebrating the 40 year anniversary in another 20 years time.” Mason added.
As last year, Northlanders have the chance to enter the prize draw to win one of two $1,000 credits on their power account when they donate more than $20 and one of 30 rides in the Electricity Rescue Helicopter when they donate $5 or more.
New community website www.2cu.co.nz will seek to engage the community throughout the appeal with further information, updates and a fundraising barometer showing current donation levels. People can make a donation on the website or complete and freepost return the official donation form delivered to Northland homes starting this week. Alternatively, they can visit any ASB Bank branch with their donation.
NEST, receives no direct government funding and relies on the generosity of the Northland community to maintain its rescue service. The money raised from the Appeal goes towards the standing costs of the helicopter, such as pilots’ wages, insurance, interest on loans, and training.
