Thanks from Northpower

The uninterrupted supply of electricity can not be guaranteed 24 hours a day. Vehicles can hit poles, equipment can fail, and trees can fall on lines. As we have seen, the weather can wreak havoc particularly with trees, causing severe damage to the network.

The recent storm and extreme winds proved just how important it is to be prepared, to have contingency plans and to know what to do when the power goes out. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to those who were resourceful and patient enough to survive days without power and other key services.

A big thank you also to the ‘people who played it safe’. Stormy conditions can create hazardous situations and we are very thankful that customers stayed clear of downed power lines.

It is estimated that over 16,000 calls were received over the seven days. We know that many more could not get through straight away and we acknowledge the frustration that some customers experienced when trying to make contact. Unfortunately, there were deficiencies in our systems which contributed to the delays and we plan to upgrade these as soon as we possibly can.

Amidst the understandably unhappy customers we also received an unexpected amount of positive feedback. It is wonderful to know that even though some customers were without power for days they still showed their appreciation for the efforts we were making to restore power. We would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to those who took the time to write, email and call in; the words of encouragement and gratitude were a real boost for all our staff involved in the storm.

Thanks to you all, from the team at Northpower.
