Successful Negotiation for First Stage Roll-out of Ultra Fast Broadband
Northpower is excited with the news today that it has successfully completed negotiations with Crown Fibre Holdings to be a partner for the initial roll out of the Government’s ultra fast broadband initiative.
Northpower has supported the Government from the outset in this step change for New Zealand and is committed to making fibre to the door successful for consumers in the Whangarei area.
Chief Executive, Mark Gatland says “we are delighted to have reached this agreement with Crown Fibre. This is a result of outstanding commitment and innovation by our fibre team to bring affordable world class open access broadband to Whangarei homes and businesses; it is a demanding challenge and today’s announcement shows that we are on the right track”.
Northpower is the Whangarei and Kaipara districts electricity network company and the fibre network is a natural extension of their business.
Northpower has the ability and experience to deliver this fibre network. This will be great for the community and a boost for the local economy. Northpower urges the community to support this new network and encourage residential and business customers to consider connecting to this future enabling broadband network as it is progressively built in the area over the next three years.
Northpower’s Fibre Manager, Darren Mason says “it is fantastic for Whangarei to be one of the first regions to get underway with a fast broadband fibre network in New Zealand and shows the strength of Northpower’s extensive capability and 80 years of working closely with our local community for the good of Northland. The tremendous support received from the local councils, the community, the wider industry and the telcos has made it possible”.
The project will commence before Christmas and be completed within three years. Northpower’s fibre experience positions them to help other regions with the design, build and operations of their fibre networks. It provides a real head start to compete nationally and locally in the building and operation of world class broadband networks.
