Northpower Chosen to Enter Negotiations for First Stage Roll-out of UFB
Crown Fibre Holdings announced on 09 September that Northpower is one of three parties to be chosen to progress to the negotiation stage with Crown Fibre Holdings as part of the partner selection process for the first stage roll out of the Government’s ultra fast broadband initiative.
The other two companies chosen by Crown Fibre Holdings to enter into negotiations with the Government are Alpine Energy for Timaru and Central North Island Fibre consortium for Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Hawera and Tokoroa.
Northpower has supported the Government from the outset in this step change for New Zealand and are committed to making fibre to the door successful for consumers in Northland.
This is a boost to the local economy and provides a real head start to compete nationally and locally in the building and operation of world class broadband networks.
Chief Executive, Mark Gatland says “we look forward to successful negotiations with Crown Fibre. This is a result of outstanding commitment and innovation by our fibre team to bring affordable world class open access broadband to Northland homes and businesses; it is a demanding challenge and today’s announcement shows that we are on the right track. The three shortlisted parties are a testament to the effort, commitment and dedication of the New Zealand Regional Fibre Group to offer a nationally coordinated but regional approach to the Government’s initiative.”
Northpower’s Fibre Manager Darren Mason says “it is fantastic for Northland to be one of the first regions to get underway with a fast broadband fibre network in New Zealand and shows the strength of Northpower’s extensive capability and 80 years of working closely with our local community for the good of Northland. The tremendous support received from the local councils, the community, the wider industry and the telcos has made it possible. “
