Oil Filled Electric Heaters

Oil filled electric heaters are an efficient and portable heater

Oil filled heaterOil filled heaters are an efficient portable heater providing both radiant and convection heat. The electric elements heat the surrounding oil, which in turn heats the outside surface. The oil is sealed inside for life.

Benefits

  • Heats the air and people
  • Suit different situations, e.g. timer models, compact/faster heating models
  • Buy correct size for room to be heated, e.g. Heating capacity:
    • 2400W can heat 72m3
    • 2000W can heat 60m3
    • 1500W can heat 45m3
    • 1000W can heat 30m3
  • Even heat
  • Energy efficient
  • Silent heat
  • No dust disturbance or draughts
  • No burning of oxygen in the air therefore ideal for bedrooms
  • Safe, especially for children and the elderly
  • Protection if thermostat fails or heater overheats
  • Control running costs
  • Power on indicator
  • Easy moving from room to room
  • Safe for children
  • Great for airing towels and clothes

Features

  • Balance of convection and radiant heat coming from both sides and top
  • Ranges of sizes and features
  • Thermostatically controlled
  • No fan
  • No exposed elements
  • Safety thermal cutout
  • Range of heat settings (most models)
  • Neo Light indicator
  • Handles and wheels/castors
  • No moving parts
  • Optional drying racks

Notes

  • If the thermostat is cycling on and off this will reduce the hourly running cost.
  • If the lower heat settings are used this will reduce the hourly cost, e.g. if the 1500 kW setting only is used on a 2400w heater the maximum running cost would be 40c per hour.
  • A 2000w heater running 4 hours a day will cost $2.16 a day maximum or $64.80 a month maximum.

Suggested Ways of Using

  • Set thermostat to comfort levels.
  • Set heat setting switch to appropriate setting, e.g. suitable for area of room or if background heat required set down.
  • If possible, turn heater on half an hour before you need it, but also turn off half an hour before you need to.
  • Not necessary to leave on 24 hours of the day if you don't require the heat (wasted energy use).
  • With the use of timers the running costs can be controlled while comfort levels are maintained throughout the day.
Running cost comparison (For all plug-in electric heaters)
Based on Meridian Energy's 24hr tariff June 2011
Watts x Cost of 1 unit = Running Costs

2400 W = 2.4 kW
  = 2.4 units per hour @ 28.90/kWh
= 69 cents her hour max

2000 W = 2 kW
  = 2 units per hour @ 28.90/kWh
= 58 cents her hour max

1500 W = 1.5 kW
  = 1.5 units per hour @ 28.90/kWh
= 43 cents her hour max

1000 W = 1 kW
  = 1 unit per hour @ 28.90/kWh
= 29 cents her hour max

“Thank you for the information on Oil Heaters. I have 2 that I used last year and I noticed that using the Portable Oil Heater versus using Propane made a HUGE difference on my heating costs. Oil heaters are convienent because they are portable and you can use them in the room that you need the heat in ... and this year I have decided I'm going to cut out my propane use for heating completely and was curious about the cost of using the oil heater hourly.”
