NZRFG Membership
The New Zealand Regional Fibre Group (NZRFG) was formed to support the Government’s vision of introducing ultra-fast fibre broadband to New Zealand.
The objective of the group is to provide a structure for regionally owned and managed network companies to deliver national wholesale, fibre-based access services to retailers and service providers on a flexible, neutral, and equivalent basis, recognising the benefits of local investment but national interoperability to both urban and rural areas.
The group is made up of 17 lines companies and local fibre companies, whose collective wisdom and experience in different regions will ensure that the Government’s regional approach will deliver a nationally coordinated and consistent approach for Retailers providing services across New Zealand.
Since the group’s inception the group has worked hard to define an operational structure that will ensure maximum operational efficiency, combined with local solutions to meet local needs. Without this approach the process would become a one horse race and would effectively preserve the existing monopoly. The NZRFG offers New Zealand a genuine wholesale-only open access network.
Different regions will adopt different solutions, but under the umbrella of the NZRFG, all solutions will operate together seamlessly and will be tailored to regional demand with the support of their community.
