Northpower Chosen to Enter Negotiations for First Stage Roll-out of UFB
Crown Fibre Holdings announced on 09 September that Northpower is one of three parties to be chosen to progress to the negotiation stage with Crown Fibre Holdings as part of the partner selection process for the first stage roll out of the Government’s ultra fast broadband initiative.
NZRFG welcomes regional approach to UFB
New Zealand Regional Fibre Group members are the only organisations short-listed for ‘prioritised negotiations’ with Crown Fibre Holdings to begin building the Government-backed ultra-fast broadband network.
Five electricity lines and fibre companies within the nationwide lines and fibre collective who are represented in three UFB bids, have this morning been short-listed for ‘prioritised negotiations’ by CFH.
West Coast Energy secures tier 1 contract with Western Power
Northpower Limited, the Whangarei based lines and electrical contracting company is pleased to announce that West Coast Energy, their Perth based subsidiary has signed a 2 plus 1 plus 1 plus 1 year contract for the provision of electrical distribution construction, maintenance and management services to Western Power. Western Power is a major electricity, transmission and distribution company in Western Australia with assets of AUD$5.3 billion.
Tai Tokerau Tall Ship Challenge - Powered by Northpower and Top Energy
Northpower and Top Energy have both confirmed they will jointly sponsor the inaugural Te Tai Tokerau Tall Ship Challenge, which casts off on the 13th May 2010. Northpower will be sponsoring schools from the Kaipara and Whangarei districts and Top Energy will be sponsoring those from the Far North.
Fibre expansion gathering speed
Northpower is ramping up its broadband activity and turning to residential customers for the next phase of its ultra-fast 100Mbit/s fibre network.

Northpower line charges to electricity retailers will increase
Line charges to electricity retailers supplying customers on the Northpower network will increase from 1 April 2010. The increases vary according to the type of connection and the annual consumption but, for the average domestic consumer (8000 units per annum), the increase will be around $2 per month.
$5 million dollar line charge holiday
Northpower consumers are set to receive something back from their local lines company. Northpower will provide all consumers connected to its network with a line charge holiday, which this year totals $5 million.
Lines companies best fit for fibre
A visiting international fibre specialist says electricity lines companies are the obvious choice for activating New Zealand’s ultra-fast broadband platform.
Smarter Meters in New Zealand
It was widely reported last year that electricity meters are being installed in New Zealand that cannot meet the industry’s expectation for fully Smart Meters.
