Whangarei Boys Take out Challenge - Powered by Northpower & Top Energy
This year’s Tai Tokerau Tall ship Challenge was a close run contest, with the lead changing hands several times during the competition. However eventually Whangarei Boys High School clinched the top of the table spot, taking the trophy for their school. There was strong competition from Kaitaia College who came a close second.
Safety, Leadership and teamwork key to challenge
The second annual Te Tai Tokerau Tall Ship Challenge is underway with a group of Northland secondary school students on board competing for the title of champion.
Two students each from six Northland schools are doing their best to demonstrate their knowledge of “Safety at Sea” – the theme for this year’s challenge – while also striving to reveal outstanding leadership and teamwork aboard the R.Tucker Thompson.

First of 70 tsunami sirens installed at Ngunguru
First of 70 tsunami sirens installed at Ngunguru. Whangarei’s first tsunami warning siren will be installed tomorrow (Wednesday 16 March) at Ngunguru. The siren is one of a network of 70 being installed along the shores of the Whangarei District to warn coastal communities of likely tsunami.
