What is all this hype about green house gases and carbon footprint?
Green house gasses are gasses released into the atmosphere from everyday events that impact on the environment, such as driving a vehicle. Northpower have carried out an assessment of the carbon generated from our business activities here and in Western Australia (WA) to understand the impact of what we do on the environment.
What does this mean to Northpower?
As a contracting company, many of our clients want to better understand how the work we do impacts on the environment. Moving forward this is going to be a big part of winning work.
Northpower's total emissions figures for the year ending 31 March 2008 for NZ are 11, 169 tCO²e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent) and for Western Australia are 664.44 tCO²e for the 10 months of operation.
To clarify the above figures and manage the ongoing growth in the business, Northpower has decided to express our carbon emission on a per employee basis.
In New Zealand this equates to 15.19 tCO²e per employee and in WA to 10.55 tCO²e per employee for the year ending 31 March 2008.
